Curlsmith Commitment to tackle Hygiene Poverty
Curlsmith is proud to announce our charitable partnership with two incredible Hygiene Poverty Charities – Project Beauty Share (USA) and The Hygiene Bank (UK), beginning Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
We have committed to donating $100,000 worth of essential haircare products this year, as well as running charitable activity once every quarter in support of hygiene poverty organizations. Our new partners, Project Beauty Share USA and The Hygiene Bank UK are non-profits who are both on a mission to restore hope and dignity to the lives of families overcoming abuse, addiction, homelessness, and poverty.
Why we need to tackle hygiene poverty
Hygiene Poverty means not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. Women, children, and families living in poverty often have greater health problems. They are more likely to suffer from disease and low self-esteem, and can become less resilient due to a lack of having proper nutrition, hygiene products, and safe environments to live and thrive. Poor health can keep women, children, and families from working, attending school, and participating in community activities for weeks or even years at a time, holding them further back in a system that is already inadequate.
Hygiene Poverty charities help provide essential hygiene and cosmetic supplies that contribute to feeling healthy and being clean, improve personal wellness, and restore dignity and hope. They rely on inclusive brands like Curlsmith, as well as individuals, to provide the essential products that keep their vital service running. As a premium brand, Curlsmith’s products can sometimes be inaccessible, and we are committed to closing the gap by partnering with these charities to provide personal care items to women and families who may not be able to obtain them otherwise. We know that when businesses, non-profits and individuals work together, we can collectively improve outcomes for women, children, families and communities – opening the path for everyone to not just survive, but to thrive.

But it was only after talking with our new partners that I learned that personal and feminine hygiene products such as toothpaste, deodorant, pads, tampons, shampoo and conditioner are rarely provided at food banks. That’s when I knew Curlsmith needed to do something to help, by committing to ongoing product donations, helping raise funds and using our platforms to raise awareness of hygiene poverty and the amazing work that these incredible charities doing,” said Kate Berski, Co-Founder of Curlsmith.

Launching our Intensive Hydration Mask is the most recent incentive to help raise funds to support those of us who experience poverty. For every jar sold, a donation of £1 and $1 is contributed to both charity partners. There will be just over 5k units, so over £5k and $5k for each charity will significantly impact families supported by the charities.
