About Us

WHO WE ARE

Curlsmith was born out of a community of people with textured hair sharing their haircare tips, home remedies and frustrations with products on the market not made specifically for their needs. Working with our curly community we created Curlsmith with the mission of bringing curl confidence to everyone wanting to embrace their gorgeous natural wavy, curly or coily hair.  With 95% of curlies saying they are happier with their curls after using Curlsmith*, we’re certain we can help you too. And with our money back guarantee, we’ll help you get the right products for you.

Our History

With a dedicated team, we grew the community online and then launched in the US on Ulta.com in 2018 and Ulta Beauty stores in 2019. As the brand took off we continue to grow in the US, UK and EU.

In late April 2022, Helen of Troy, a US based multi-national company with a long history in beauty and hair care products, acquired Curlsmith. With the same vision for the brand, the values remain the same, as do the high-quality products. The Curlsmith team also remains the same and continues this mission.
In August 2025, we are reorganizing the ranges to make it simpler, clearer and more intuitive to shop. This was following feedback that the product ranges had gotten complicated. We’re also updating our labels, but rest assured, it’s the same great product inside.

OUR MISSION

CURL CONFIDENCE means empowering everyone to love the hair they have and giving you the products and expertise to make caring for curly hair simple, while taking the best possible care of people, communities and the planet.

Everyone can love the hair they have if they have the right curl care.
With the highest quality, food inspired formulas, our products are made with
all the things curls love, and none of things they don’t.

Curlsmith believes that curls don’t have to be complicated which is why
we’re on a mission to take the guesswork out. We’re here to help you on your
curl journey whether you have the loosest of waves to the tightest of coils or
anything in between.

WORK IT

When it comes to your curls, it’s just gotta work. At Curlsmith we always put performance first. Every single one of our professional grade formulas has been rigorously tested for quality, performance and safety, and put through its paces by our picky panel of expert curlfriends before launch. This ensures we always bring you ‘wow’ results, without compromising on ingredients.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

We get that your curls are as unique as you are. With so many factors at play, from hair texture, density and porosity, to health, hormones and seasonal changes, it can be hard to know where to start. We’re here to help you on every step of that journey. Check out the articles in Curl Advice, take the Curl Quiz for your own personal recommendation, seek inspiration on our Instagram, Facebook, Youtube and TikTok channels, or send us an email at hello@curlsmith.com.

GENTLY DOES IT

All our products are carefully designed to feed the needs of curly hair and they’re jam packed with delicious superfoods. We’ve removed ingredients that can be too harsh on curls including silicones, sulphates, parabens, mineral oils, DEAs, drying alcohols, artificial dyes and phthalates. All products follow rigorous testing and comply both with FDA regulations and stricter EU rules.

EVERYONE’S INVITED

We believe everyone should feel heard, respected and welcome. We know that varied perspectives lead to better solutions, better services and ultimately a better world. Curlsmith is for everyone, and makes products for every curl, wave or coil type regardless of skin color, gender, sexuality, race or religion.

Planet friendly

At Curlsmith, we’ve been working hard on keeping our effect on the planet minimal. All our plastic amber bottles and jars are made from 100% PCR (post-consumer recycled material) which means we’re re-using. They are also recyclable, so they can go back into the cycle once you’ve finished with them. The tubes are made from 45% PCR plastic. Cartons are RSC certified – paper sourced from responsible forestry.

The majority of our packaging components are manufactured in the US, with the minority from other global sources. Our products are manufactured in the US, given the majority stays in North America, helping to keep carbon emissions to a minimum.

People matter

Personal hygiene is something we believe everyone should have a right to. This is why we are proud to partner with Project Beauty Share (US) and The Hygiene Bank (UK), two charities working to tackle hygiene poverty. Many foodbanks do not include personal care or household care items and so the work of these two charities is so important helping those who are struggling.
